Enhancing pictures for fashion — with help of AI
Covid-19 crisis and pandemic showed us the new level of virtual engagement — especially in the field of advertising and eCommerce. Many businesses were forced to go fully online and attract their customer base using new technologies.
One of the industries that suffered immensely in the first phase of the crisis was fashion — shops were closed due to severe restrictions, plenty of businesses had to come up with their online shops as soon as possible. The means of creating satisfactory content were also limited.
Obviously, when it comes to selling fashion online the key to success lies mostly in the presentation from different angles and best quality. However, many smaller brands are unable to get the best results because of the limited resources. Some pictures may not be presented in the desired resolution.
How to find a solution that wouldn’t require rich resources both on the technical and financial side? You can try to get familiar with machine learning software. How it makes a difference? See for yourself.
On the left you can see blurry, pixelated and bad quality image — seems like nothing can be done there. The good news is that everything is possible now — as you can see on the right-hand side.
But how does it work? We are using something called convolutional neural networks which are used for image analysis. These networks require minimal pre-processing, compared to other image classification algorithms. In reality it means that the network learns the filters which were developed manually in traditional algorithms.
As a result it is possible to keep the same or even better quality of the picture despite the higher resolution.
Here are other examples of fashion items enhanced successfully:
The algorithm is constantly being improved, with changes such as getting better results with whiteness and solid colours, JPG artifacts removal, noise removal and many more.
